The Car Donation Program

“Donate your used car and help feed needy families in Morris County”

Background

Morris County is the third most affluent county in the United States. So you might think that families in Morris County would not have a serious problem in feeding themselves. And you would be wrong. Morris County also has the highest median income of any county in the United States. Median is the dividing line of the population. One-half of the wage earners are above the median income and one-half are below. This means that there are a large number of affluent individuals in Morris County and an equally large number of less affluent or poor people who live here.

Since 1994, the Interfaith Food Pantry has been distributing food to needy Morris County families to help them make ends meet and to live day-to-day. Unfortunately, this need is growing. From 2005 to 2006, the Food Pantry experienced a 9 % increase in the number of families visited and an 11% increase in the pounds of food distributed. We at the Food Pantry have been blessed with the ongoing generosity of our food contributors. But as the need for more food distribution grows, so does our need to acquire additional funds to continue and expand our work. One approach we are establishing to help us do this is a Car Donation Program.

Car Donations to Charity

Many charitable organizations in Morris County have established car donation programs to help them obtain additional needed funds. These programs have proved to be very successful. Individuals would donate their used cars to the charities. The charities, in turn, would sell the cars and obtain the money from the sale. The car donator would receive a tax deduction for the sale price of the car. It proved to be a “winwin” situation for everyone. The Food Pantry is putting this type of program in place so we can achieve the same type of success.

The Donation Process

If you are willing to donate your car to help us, we have three main criteria for donations:

  1. It should be a 1999 or newer car

  2. You should have a valid title for the car

  3. The car should be valued at $1500 or more

When you donate your car to the Food Pantry, we will work with a major auto dealer who will sell the car. Then we will send you a receipt for the sales price of the car for tax purposes.

To begin the donation process, please contact Deacon Mike Hanly on 973-539-4766. He will discuss the details with you and handle the arrangements

Donating your used car to the Food Pantry is a great way to help us to help others in need
